Book Review: ‘The Law of Divine Compensation: On Work, Money, and Miracles’
I was first introduced to Marianne Williamson and her book, ‘The Law of Divine Compensation: On Work, Money, and Miracles,’ during the inaugural gathering of our Real Life Book Club. Susannah Campora, our book club leader, cautioned us that although Williamson’s words could be uplifting, her discussions on God and prayers might not resonate with everyone. As someone who is spiritual but not religious, I wondered how I would interpret this style of writing. However, thanks to the remarkable content and Williamson’s clear and amiable writing, I found myself embracing her words and easily substituting “God” with “universe” to make it more relatable to my own beliefs.
Discovering Abundance
This book is a captivating read, effortlessly consumed, and brimming with delightful anecdotes from Williamson’s personal experiences, as well as practical stories about her clients’ lives. She breaks down the process of evaluating and cultivating abundance into the following steps:
Align yourself with love
In comprehending the Law of Divine Compensation, we realize that the universe is inherently designed to work in our favor. By embracing love in our lives, we gain access to limitless possibilities from the universe. Williamson beautifully expresses, “The thinking of the world is simply upside down, with the naturalness of love feeling almost unnatural at times and the unnaturalness of fear feeling natural.” This revelation was truly mind-boggling for me.
Embrace your faith in the positive
Our thoughts possess immense power and significantly shape our reality. Regardless of our religious beliefs, our faith has the ability to activate or deactivate the Law of Divine Compensation. When we place our faith in love and positivity, we unleash our abundance and set in motion actions that support our goals.
Transform your negative self-perception
Having the courage to excavate our deepest fears and recognize the scripts we’ve embraced is essential. Fears restrict us and deactivate the Law of Divine Compensation, while our painful thoughts often stem from an excessive identification with material possessions. It’s important to understand that negative thoughts can emerge from 1) a negative self-perception, 2) anger, and 3) guilt.
Continue to release anger and transcend guilt
While anger can be a potent and helpful emotion, it often masks our own fears and resentments towards others and external triggers. Finding the freedom to forgive ourselves and others allows us to let go of the mental barriers that obstruct divine correction.
Practice shifting from fear to love
This step is pivotal, and I believe it’s where the true essence of the work lies. It’s one thing to be aware of our current state and set intentions repeatedly, but the real transformation occurs when we are triggered and consciously choose to acknowledge, heal, and persist despite the fear. Even if this process happens in a split second, its effect is incredibly powerful. Personally, I’ve found The Tapping Solution to be invaluable in helping me navigate these emotions in the moment. They even offer a dedicated financial webinar to expedite the process and activate abundance.
It’s never too late
Any miracle that may have eluded us is patiently waiting for us to be ready to receive it. The universe has an inherent insurance policy.
Remain positive
Williamson emphasizes four principles for creating miraculous work: Be positive. Send love. Have fun. Kick ass. This is, by far, my favorite takeaway from the book, and I’ve adopted it as a mantra since reading it.
As a small business owner myself, I found this book to be a perfect companion for my busy schedule. It sparked intriguing conversations during our book club meetings, and Williamson’s eloquent yet practical writing was both refreshing and inspiring.
If you’re seeking to elevate your abundance, which steps have resonated with you the most?
